  • IFC chooses Luxembourg as domicile for major Green Bond fund Statement 27/04/17 04:57:00

    The International Finance Corporation IFC, together with asset manager Amundi, have announced to create the world’s largest green-bond fund dedicated to emerging markets, the Green Cornerstone Bond Fund. The USD 2bn fixed income fund will be domiciled in Luxembourg.

    The fund will buy green bonds issued by banks in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, Eastern Europe and Central Asia. IFC will invest USD 325 million, while Amundi will raise the rest from institutional investors worldwide. The fund will deepen new green capital markets in countries where such a market was non-existent so far.

  • Experts from China and South Korea join the Luxembourg Government’s initiative as high-level advisors Press Release 10/03/17

    Luxembourg, March 8, 2017 – The Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy today announced that leading experts from China and South Korea join the international Advisory Board, which guides the Luxembourg Government in shaping and developing its initiative which aims to promote commercial use of resources gathered from celestial bodies such as asteroids or from the Moon.
    Prof. Wu Ji is chief scientist and project leader of the Strategic Priority Program on Space Science of the Chinese Academy of Sciences where he has been a full Professor since 1996. In 2016, he was elected President of the Chinese Society on Space Research. Prof. Wu Ji also is Director General of the National Space Science Center, Vice-President of the Committee for Space Research and a full member of the International Astronautics Academy.
    Prof. Seung Jo Kim is Professor Emeritus of Seoul National University, from which he retired in 2015. He is also a fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics as well as of the Institute of Physics. He served as President of the Korea Aerospace Research Institute for three years from 2011, and among other important projects he led the successful launch of the first Korean space launch vehicle in 2013... read more

  • PayPal Europe, le FNR et l’Université signent un accord pour la création d’une chaire PEARL du FNR dans le domaine des FinTech Press Release 10/03/17

    PayPal (Europe), le Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR) et l’Université du Luxembourg ont signé aujourd’hui un protocole d’accord sur la création d’une Chaire PEARL du FNR dans le domaine des FinTech (services financiers numériques). Cette chaire sera conjointement financée sur une période de cinq ans par le FNR et PayPal Europe, et sera établie au Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) de l’Université du Luxembourg. C’est le Premier Ministre Xavier Bettel en personne qui avait obtenu l’engagement personnel du CEO de PayPal, Dan Schulman, pour le cofinancement de ladite chaire.

    En effet, le gouvernement luxembourgeois aspire à positionner le pays comme leader mondial dans le domaine des services financier digitaux innovants et à en faire l’un des plus importants centres pour les technologies financières.  Afin d’atteindre ces objectifs, le gouvernement souhaite accélérer ces développements en stimulant des collaborations plus étroites entre le secteur privé et les institutions de recherche publiques.

    Une telle collaboration a donc été mise sur pied entre PayPal Europe, le Fonds National de la Recherche et l’Université du Luxembourg, dans un secteur clé de l’économie luxembourgeoise. Un secteur qui est soumis à une transformation accélérée, où des technologies digitales novatrices créent des opportunités pour des services innovants.
