Luxembourg, a favorite destination for Chinese investors
A Capital, a Luxembourg domiciled Fund, released its DRAGON INDEX for the year 2012 on April 16th. This index comments on the most recent trends and data relating to Chinese overseas direct investments (ODI). According to this report Europe ranked as the main destination for Chinese ODI (12.6 billion USD, 21% more than in 2011).
Based on A Capital’s DRAGON INDEX, The Economist magazine published an article on April 19th noting that although Chinese investors are increasingly attracted by EU companies, complaints are being raised about regulatory delay especially for visas and permits. The article goes on to highlight one country as an exception: Luxembourg! It is considered as a favorite destination, among other reasons, in recognition of the country’s swift action on permits and visas. Nicolas Mackel, Luxembourg’s Consul General in Shanghai, explained that this comparative advantage was due to the country’s ‘speed and pragmatism’ in handling paper work.
