Published Monday October 12 2015

According to the latest World University Rankings released by the highly regarded Times Higher Education (THE) journal, the University of Luxembourg ranked 193 worldwide this year. It positions itself in between the Ulm University (Germany), ex aequo with the Texas A&M University and the "Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin" (Germany). Taking into account only European universities, ranked 98th.

THE World University Rankings were announced yesterday, 30 September 2015, during the World Academic Summit of THE in Melbourne, Australia. They are the world’s most widely referenced university rankings. They play an important role in degree recognition globally and are based partly on a global survey of academics with regard to teaching, research, international outlook, industry income as well as the citation frequency of publications and various statistical data.

"It is gratifying to be recognised for the work we do here and the impact it has — both on our students and on the global community. This result confirms that our young university is on the right track to become a model European research university of the 21st century," says University of Luxembourg president Rainer Klump.

Mr Phil Baty, editor of the THE World University Rankings, added: "The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, now in their 12th year, apply rigorous standards, using tough global benchmarks across all of a global research university’s key missions. The results are trusted by students and their families, academics, university leaders and governments. For University of Luxembourg to make 193 in the world is an outstanding achievement to be celebrated."
