European Year of Youth - A taste of Luxembourg!

Publié le samedi 21 mai 2011

On May 20, the Embassy of Luxembourg opened its doors to more than 100 Chinese and foreign students as part of the activities of the EU-China Year of Youth.

Students came from both Beijing University and Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) studying either German, French, English or Chinese. Teachers, journalists and a representative of the All-China Youth Federation joined the event.

The initiative aimed to promote intercultural dialogue and strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between young people in China and the EU, as well as to encourage them to support the development of China-EU relations.

The Luxembourg Open day started with a welcome speech by the Luxembourg Ambassador to China, followed by the screening of a movie entitled Is it true what they say about Luxembourg?

To promote the multilingualism of Luxembourg, the students were divided into groups where they were given a presentation followed by a discussion, in either German, French or English. The students were invited to participate in a quiz about Luxembourg, where they could show their newly acquired knowledge. The winners received presents from Luxembourg.

In the Embassy’s kitchen, the students participated in a workshop, where they were shown how to make Wäffelcher, a traditional Luxembourgish waffle. After the dough was mixed, an initial demonstration done, students could practice their own Wäffelcher making skills by themselves.

While a delicious bakery smell filled the Embassy, the cookie tasting provided the background for cultural exchanges between the Chinese and Luxembourg students.
